Wisdom teeth removal is sometime necessary when they are causing pain due to pressure and infection. wisdom teeth will need to be removed when there is no enough space to accommodate for the wisdom teeth to come through, causing them to be located in unfavorable position in the mouth.
At Albany Village Dental, wisdom teeth are assessed using an OPG xray, this is a special xray machine that you stand in and it would take a radiograph from outside the head from one ear to the other, showing all the teeth as well as the nasal sinuses. Wisdom teeth are then assessed for location, size, number of roots, as well as the location of all the nerves and sinuses in relation to the wisdom teeth.
Planning for wisdom teeth removal is taking place when the mentioned information are available to us, and we can look into the options of surgical or non surgical wisdom teeth removal.
At Albany Village Dental, we use Local anesthesia as well as IV sedation to keep you at comfort and ease while having wisdom teeth removed. Due to the sedation effect you can not drive or operate any machinery in that day and recovery usually takes few days after, depending on the size and location of the wisdom teeth.
IV Sedation team will look after your care, while the surgery is talking place, most people will not remember or know any details about being through the surgery.
We recommend having wisdom teeth assessed at young age when possible to assess the space available and if needed then wisdom teeth removal can be planned before hand , rather wait for it to cause acute pain and having to deal with it as an emergency. Assessment of wisdom teeth is mainly done through a simple xray by our dentist.
